Are Jubilee Years only celebrated in Rome?

The original intent of the Jubilee was to pilgrimage to the tombs of the Apostles, Peter and Paul. So we encourage you to join us on pilgrimage to Rome.

In addition to events in Rome, there may be events throughout the world. While there will not be Holy Doors other than the 5 in Rome (at the four major basilicas and at one prison), the Holy Father has encouraged pilgrimage to other sites, including the Holy Land and your own local churches. "The faithful, pilgrims of hope, will be able to obtain the Jubilee Indulgence granted by the Holy Father if they undertake a pious pilgrimage... by visiting the Cathedral or other church or sacred place designated by the local Ordinary. Bishops will take into account the needs of the faithful as well as the opportunity to reinforce the concept of pilgrimage with all its symbolic significance, so as to manifest the great need for conversion and reconciliation. " (Decree of the Apostolic Penitentiary released on May 13)

In addition to pilgrimage, there are special graces given for those who engage in works of mercy and penance. We are also encouraged to participate in spiritual and educational events, such as missions, spiritual exercises, or formation activities on the documents of the Second Vatican Council and the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
