Where should I begin when it comes to packing for my upcoming pilgrimage?

One of the most challenging aspects of packing is deciding what to bring and what to leave behind. It's easy to default to packing something out of a sense of preparedness when, in reality, you end up burdening yourself with unnecessary items. Trust us when we say that 'less is more' when it comes to traveling.

As you begin to think about packing for our upcoming journey, consider the following questions:

- Am I packing this item out of fear that I might need it, or out of necessity?
- Will this item be used frequently during the trip?
- Will this item enhance or hinder my experience as a pilgrim?
- Would it be a meaningful challenge to practice restraint by leaving it at home?

Here are some important items to keep in mind while packing:

  • Dressing for the season: Check the weather forecast ahead of your trip and pack accordingly.
  • Attire for churches or holy sites: Always dress modestly by covering your knees and shoulders when visiting religious sites.
  • Footwear: Choose comfortable shoes suitable for a day of walking.
  • Security considerations: Opt for clothes with interior pockets or secure zippers to safeguard your belongings. Money belts and anti-theft bags can provide additional security.
  • Outlet adapter: Most of our pilgrims will need an adapter while traveling. Refer to our blog post for more information on this essential item.
  • Medications: Pack an ample supply of essential prescription medications, along with common over-the-counter options like Ibuprofen or Tylenol. Carry prescription medications in their original containers and keep scripts with you in case of security queries. Store medications in your carry-on.
  • Extra copies of important documents: Make duplicates of crucial documents such as reservations, passports, and airline tickets. Bring one set with you and leave another at home with a trusted family member or friend.
  • Water bottle: Consider a reusable water bottle that can hold an adequate amount of water without adding too much weight to your bag.
  • Cell Phone: While not mandatory, we highly recommend bringing a cell phone, as we communicate with pilgrims daily via WhatsApp.
