What’s so special about the Korean Catholic Church?

Korea is the only country in the world to have evangelized itself. It was not missionaries nor imperial powers that brought Catholicism to Korea, but a group of Korean young people who found books about the Church, fell in love with the teachings of Jesus, and decided to commit their lives to living these teachings and sharing their newfound faith.
After over a century of intense persecution and tens of thousands of martyrs, the Korean Catholic Church has blossomed into a thriving, vibrant Church both authentically Korean and authentically Catholic.
This unique origin story, the witness of the martyrs, and the joyful example of the Korean Catholic Church today are an inspiration to the Church today.
